Just Graduated? How the Nissan College Grad Program Gets You Driving
You earned the degree. Now the hard part: getting into your first car after college without the run-around.
The Nissan College Grad Program is built for exactly that moment. It is a manufacturer offer designed to reward recent graduates who are starting their careers, and it can be combined with other offers already available on a new Nissan. That means your diploma can do a little extra work on your behalf when you shop.
At Nissan of Buena Park the process is straightforward: visit us, choose your vehicle, and drive off. No gimmicks, no maze, just an honest path from cap and gown to keys in hand.
Do You Qualify? Here Is the Eligibility in Plain English
Eligibility is the first thing every graduate wants to know, so here it is straight. You may qualify if any of the following describe you:
- You graduated from an accredited four-year college, university, or registered nursing degree program within the last two years, or you will graduate from one within the next six months
- You graduated from an accredited two-year college, junior college, technical college, or university within the last two years, or you will graduate within the next six months
- You are enrolled in, or have graduated from, an accredited graduate degree program within the last two years
- You graduated from an accredited two-year trade or vocational school
On top of the education requirement, you will need proof of current or future employment that begins within 90 days. Written confirmation of an upcoming graduation within the next six months also counts, so you do not necessarily have to wait until you walk the stage.
Proof of eligibility is required, and not all applicants qualify. Think of the requirements less as hurdles and more as the checklist that gets you to the good part faster.
One thing worth confirming with us before you shop: program eligibility can vary by vehicle. Nissan’s program terms note that certain non-US-built models may be excluded from the offer, and which specific builds qualify can shift. So rather than picking a model and assuming the bonus applies, tell us you are shopping as a graduate at the start, and we will confirm which vehicles on our lot are eligible. That takes two minutes and saves a disappointing conversation at the finance desk.
What to Bring So You Can Move Fast
Graduates are busy people, so come prepared, and you can keep the visit short. Have these ready:
- Documentation of your graduation, such as a diploma or transcript, or written confirmation of an upcoming graduation
- Proof of employment or an offer letter for a job starting within 90 days
- A valid driver’s license and standard financing documents
When your paperwork is in order, our team can verify eligibility and get you focused on the fun decision: which Nissan is going home with you.
Picking Your First Car After College
The right first car is dependable, easy to live with, and ready for a daily commute, weekend trips, and everything in between.
If you want efficient, sharp, and easy to park, the Nissan Sentra is the compact sedan that makes sense for a first career car. If you would rather sit a little higher with room for gear, the Nissan Kicks and Nissan Rogue bring crossover versatility without feeling oversized.
Worth knowing if you have been researching for a while: the Nissan Versa is no longer in production. Nissan ended US production in December 2025 and it does not return for 2026, which makes the Kicks the new entry point to the lineup. If a Versa was on your list, we can show you a rare new 2025, or a pre-owned one.
Not sure where to start? Take a look at the full new vehicle lineup and build a short list before you come in.
How the Program Works With Financing
Building credit as a new graduate can feel intimidating, especially if your file is thin. That is where our finance team earns its keep.
Nissan of Buena Park works with multiple lenders to help match graduates with a financing plan that fits, and the College Grad offer can be applied alongside other offers on a qualifying new Nissan.
You can get a head start from your phone. Use our payment calculator to estimate different scenarios, then complete a secure financing application online so most of the legwork is done before you arrive. When you visit, our finance team will confirm your eligibility and walk you through the numbers.
One item worth handling before you buy rather than after: call your insurer. Rates for a younger driver vary considerably by vehicle, and the difference between two cars on your shortlist can be larger than you expect. It occasionally changes which one you choose.
Not Quite Eligible Yet? You Still Have Smart Options
If the new-car route is not the right fit this year, a Nissan Certified Pre-Owned vehicle can be a genuinely smart first car.
Every Nissan Certified Pre-Owned vehicle goes through a 167-point inspection by Nissan-trained technicians and comes with a 7-year or 100,000-mile limited powertrain warranty plus roadside assistance. That coverage is usable at any Nissan dealership in the country, which matters if your first job takes you somewhere else.
For a new driver whose budget has no room for a surprise repair, that is the difference between an unknown risk and a covered one. You can browse the Certified Pre-Owned inventory anytime.
